Farley Noserider

I've been holding on to a board for the past year that I've only ridden once. That wasn't a great day, but I'm now surfing better and am thinking about getting it out in the water.

A year or so ago a work colleague offered me a foamie for my grandnephew to use. His kids were now adults and it was sitting on a rack in his garage. At the time, he offered me a permanent loan of this other board. I of course said yes without knowing what it was.

Well, it's a 10' Farley Noserider. It had a lifetime of wax on it which I removed this past week. I wanted to check for dings or fractures before I put it in the water. It also got me curious about its maker, Pat Farley.

Pat is a local name here in Santa Cruz and I knew of him from growing up around the water. Pat's story is best told by himself here at his website.

I got the board cleaned up and wrote to Pat to see if he could help tell the story of this board. I'm going to go meet him and see what I can find out about its manufacture. Below are a few images.

I got a chance to stop by and visit with Pat. Pat was impressed with this boards cleanliness which I suspect is due to not being ridden in 20 years. He told me it looked like an early 1990's board with a glass job by Tony Mikus. It was probably created and sold through Pat's shop.

Now its time to get it into the water and see what I can do.
