Cowell's 12/29-30/2024

GoPro made a barrel

Here are a couple of videos from last week after the huge swell passed through. As usual, the swell moved the sandbars around so that there were multiple sections to take advantage of.

I'm experimenting here with the Ultrawide lens for my GoPro 13. We're shooting at 1:1 to see how it works. I'm noticing more water spots than on the default lens but I may have gummed it up with hand oils or surf wax. I cleaned it after the first day.

I'm also learning DaVinci Resolve to pull in GoPro source and trim the clips into something I can slow down and zoom in on silly mistakes like looking at my feet or swinging my back arm upwards...

In this first series of waves, I hadn't been out in 10 days. We'd had the huge storm that took out the wharf and lots of rain. I usually stay out of the water till the runoff and obstacles have time to dissipate. Anyway, it was a minus tide at Cowell's and I got there before the big crowd. It was the type of day where you paddle out, get a wave to two into the beach and walk back.

The second set of videos was in much more crowded conditions. But, I got some really nice sections.

In this third clip, I'm just working on directional changes. Turned out the conditions allowed for some lefts as the waves reformed and the sandbar shifted around.
