The failed septic system in late May 2012, got us started on a number of projects. Ken Clausing of A+ Construction was nice enough to come up that day. This is the project that started it all...
When the septic system stops working, everything stops. You can’t flush, shower, wash dishes, etc. We were city kids who didn’t really know what a septic system was. So, we asked Lynda’s Mom where the system was located. She had a general idea and a drawing, but she’d lived in the house nearly 10 years without a septic service, so not a lot of direct knowledge.
Above is what the fully landscaped leech line and septic system looked like. Pro-tip from Ken was “you don’t plant trees above you leech line”.
Here’s what 100’ of 10’ deep leech line replacement looks like. I hope we don’t have to do this again we said in 2013. See the 2022 septic system refresh article for a second look at this work.
As they say in problem analysis, this is the root cause. What you can see are the groves of 200-300’ redwoods that surround our home.
From the dirt we put wood chips. Years later that was replaced with a turf project. Years after that we had to do the septic leech refresh again and finally we put in astroturf.
